Do you berate yourself when you procrastinate on important tasks?
Or do you worry that you are being indisciplined, incompetent or just plain lazy?
The truth is procrastination is NOT laziness.
And it is NOT a measure of your capability either.
So instead of being hard on yourself, ask:
“What is your procrastination REALLY telling you?”
There is a high chance it is saying:
✔️ “You are overwhelmed with the task. It seems too big.”
✔️ Or maybe it is saying “This task is too boring and will take up a lot of time and energy.” Because boring tasks do suck up a lot of energy
✔️ Or maybe you are unsure of how to do the task. Or are afraid to get it wrong. Or both.
✔️ Or maybe you just aren’t convinced about doing it at all.
What shows up as procrastination is often a symptom of one of the above.
And fixing the cause is more likely to get you moving than trying to fix procrastination.
✅ Like breaking it into smaller more manageable tasks
✅ Finding ways to make it fun
✅ Getting help
✅ Or finding a compelling reason to complete the task.
So, again.
Don’t try to fix your procrastination. It never works.
Instead, listen closely to what your procrastination REALLY telling you.
