“What is your vision for this business?”
I asked this question to one of my clients.
He explained in detail where he saw his business moving, the shifts he planned for, the revenue he hoped to generate and the impact he wanted to create.
It was an impressive vision.
I then asked him, “If I ask your team, would they give me the same answer?”
There was a moment of silence as he reflected on my question.
He then said,” They know their department goals and the metrics they are measured on. But I don’t think I’ve really spoken to them about this vision in such detail.”
This is something I see quite often.
Leaders share tasks and goals more than the complete picture they want to create.
And the result is similar to the 6 blind men who went to the zoo to see the elephant and came away with completely different ideas about what the elephant looked like.
