Most leaders today are BURNTOUT.
Or running on fumes.
Because recent times have been hard on everyone.
But in some ways, they have been harder on people in leadership roles.
And here is what is contributing to the leadership burnout
1. The BURDEN of the past 2 years:
> The stress of daily firefighting to keep businesses afloat that was literally every day of the last 2 years
> Having to step up and step in for people when they had to step away for personal or health reasons.
> Dealing with their own personal losses and health issues
2. The INSECURITY of the present
> The pandemic is not fully over. It is still raging in bits and the ambiguity still hasn’t fully disappeared
> The workplace is struggling with changes in defining the next normal(WFH, hybrid, strategy changes, role changes, etc)
> The uncertainty of the economic situation and impending recession
3. The EXPECTATIONS of the future
> A higher pressure to perform in an even more VUCA world than before
> Expectation to make up for the ground lost in the last 2 years
> Fear of letting down the guard after having been on high alert for 2 continuous years
If you are a leader today you are susceptible to al of these causes of leadership burnout.
How are you managing yourself through all of this?
And what else am I missing in this list?
