Group Coaching

Group Coaching

What is Group Coaching?

Simply put group coaching is coaching a group of individuals together on a common goal or theme. It is done over a few group sessions with all the members of the group together

In a typical group coaching program we:

  1. Set clear individual goals and priorities within the context of the group goals.
  2. Defineing the success criteria for the goals both at group and individual levels.
  3. Understand where you are now vs where you want to be with regard to your goals
  4. Unearth the fears, apprehensions and roadblocks to the goals.
  5. Understand limiting beliefs and self-sabotaging behaviours at a conscious and subconscious level
  6. Build a step by step, manageable action plan with an accountability system for each individal
  7. Regularly calibrate to ensure we are making progress in the right direction.

Pros

  • More cost effective than 1~1 coacging
  • Group coaching leverages the cllective wisdom and support of a group.
  • Creates stong trust relationships in a group which can be leveraged as a network

Cons:

  • For some individuals it is difficult to be completely open and vulnerable in the presence of other members and this can limit development.

Who Is this right for?

Group Coaching works best when participants have a similar challenge or goal they need to work through. Some examples of where Group Coaching can be used are.

A person’s current success does not guarantee future success. The best engineer in the team may turn out to be the worst team leader. The best Sales Executive may turn out to be the worst Sales Head.  There is no interviewer or test that can guarantee the person promoted to a leadership role will perform.  This means that every promotion is a risk.

Some organizations mitigate this risk by implementing  leadership skills training program in the hope of supporting the new leaders in their new role.

But training is not enough.

That is where we come in!

A Group Coaching Program can help upcoming leaders in the organization to step up to their new role.

Along with skills every new role requires the following

  1. Change in Beliefs
  2. Change in Purpose
  3. Change in Identity

The above 3 when combines lead to changes in behaviors of an individual.

To help you understand how this is useful. An individual may go through training on presentation skills where he learns the basics of presentations, creating an effective PowerPoint slide deck and sharing information effectively. However, training will not guarantee that the person will become a great presenter. What could go wrong? They may have stage fright. The person may be uncomfortable with being in the limelight. The person may be afraid of making mistakes. All these and similar challenges get addressed in the coaching program.

Women in the workplace

Gender diversity is a key focus of most organizations today. There is enough and more data to support the premise that a diverse workforce is good for the bottom line. But while the organization invests in hiring and supporting women one of the key challenges that they face is women holding themselves back. This program is about working with women and empowering them to take on bigger challenges.

Confessions of some real women at work

  • I juggle multiple responsibilities between home and work and am constantly short on time.
  • I am often overwhelmed by the feeling of having too much on my plate. Even when I have time I run out of energy to do things.
  • In the constant rush to complete stuff I often feel lost and disconnected from the “real” me.
  • Taking on additional responsibilities or initiatives at work just feels like too much to do.
  • I fear that making bold career choices will impact my work-life priorities.
  • I struggle to ask for what I need or say no to people. I do not like to deal with conflict or upsetting people. When I do speak up you feel I may be perceived as arrogant or bossy.
  • I am afraid to fail so you avoid risks altogether
  • Networking is not something I do actively. I believe it is difficult and time-consuming.

The challenges for women in the workplace lie not just within the workplace but also within themselves

***The myth about superwomen: The media constantly flaunts images of women who have it all – career, family, health, beauty. But in reality, the superwoman is a myth and does not exist. What she does manage to do however is create feelings of inadequacy and the need to do more at the cost of happiness and health. Every woman’s choices are her own and true success lies in living by what is important to her.

Our Group Coaching program gives women a voice and a safe space to explore these inner conflicts within themselves. It empowers them to live upto their potential.

Leadership whether in an organization or an enterprise is a lonely place. Leaders often struggle with their feelings and fears and it can get quite overwhelming at times.

The challenge of leadership today is perhaps more complicated than ever before. In the VUCA world, the leaders of today are expected to lead from the front and provide answers to problems that they may not even understand.

Leaders today are measured not just by their business success but also by their of emotional intellignece and their executive presence.

The time for leaders to adjust and accomodate changes is limited.

The Myth About Leaders:

People often assume that if you are a leader you always have your act together and that you always know the answers. Nothing can be further from the truth.

As you grow in your career and business your success will increasingly be defined not by your skill level but by your ability to think bigger, better and more strategically. This involves not just developing you thinking but also overcoming your own hindrances like limiting beliefs, self-sabotaging behaviours and adopting a growth mindset.

A Group Coaching Program allows leaders to explore their thoughts and ideas in a peer setting. It allows them to use the best of their wisdom as well as that of others in the group.
