What’s taking up most of your day? And what is it doing to your energy?
Not all work is created equal.
I classify work as Great, Good and Bad
- Great work is the one I am excited to get to it, I enjoy doing it and I am super energized at the end of it. (coaching sessions, giving a talk, etc)
- Good work doesn’t necessarily cause excitement but I don’t mind doing it either. My energy doesn’t shift for the better or worse after it. (Documentation, reports, etc
- Bad work is the one I dread. It sucks my soul and I feel drained after doing it. (taxes, accounts, etc)
The more great work I do the more I enjoy my work and the better outcomes I create.
Now here’s the catch – I can’t always avoid the bad work.
So here is a simple strategy I follow to find balance in my work
- Ensure the amount of great work in the week/day is sufficient to keep my creativity high and balance out the bad work
- Let go off and delegate as much bad and good work as you can
- Some good work(which is mostly routine for me) is ok….because it allows me to take a break from creativity.
