The term “work-life balance” seems to suggest that we do “work” and then we live life in the time we have leftover.
But isn’t life happening while we are at work?
Shouldn’t we be living at work too?
And shouldn’t balance be about having a balance in all spheres of life that matter to you?
Balance could look different for everyone. Some people find peace in the work they do and so work longer hours. Others may find the same thing in their family or creative pursuits or rest.
I for one like to do a whole lot of things. My passion is coaching. But I am also passionate about learning, art, fitness, family and having fun.
So, I try to make choices that allow me to find space for all things I am passionate about.
Interestingly I find that when I balance time for all things important to me, my productivity and creativity increase in all the spheres of my life.
Over time I have come to understand that more than the amount of time I spend on something it is the quality of the time (and my state of mind when I do something) that gives me better outcomes.
So how about creating a balance in life in a way that creates better outcomes for you?
I don’t understand the term “work-life balance”.
Isn’t the work we do a part of life itself?
