In most organizations, we are part of two teams.
Team A: The one where we are the leader
Team B: And the one our manager leads.
As a leader, both the team you lead and the team you are part of are important
BUT for most of us, our loyalties are inclined more towards one than the other.
Most leaders I coach share that they feel a higher alignment with Team A – the team they lead because:
1. Their sense of significance comes from being a leader for the that team
2. Their achievements are all linked to the success of that team
And no doubt Team A is important because it is through Team A you achieve your goals and objectives.
But it is important to be in EQUAL harmony with Team B.
Because it is Team B that allows you to stay in alignment with the larger goals and priorities of the organization.
Team B also provides you with the support, resources, and feedback that you need to be an effective leader for Team A.
And it is only by being aligned with the shared purpose of Team B that you can successfully serve the organization’s vision.
Because these may be two teams BUT they really serve one vision.
Are you part of two teams? And do you feel equally aligned with both?
